Benjamin Franklin
Lucky Lucente, founder and lead tutor of Vital Minds, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Communication Studies from West Virginia University. Motivated by a deep commitment to education, she went on to earn a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from WVU.
Her teaching journey has spanned the globe. In Australia, she gained valuable experience working within a new educational system, both teaching and fully immersing herself in the local academic culture. Upon returning to the United States, she taught second grade at Skyview Elementary in Morgantown, West Virginia. After a year, she continued her international work, relocating to Italy to tutor students of all ages in English, both in-person and online. She also spent a summer teaching English to middle school students in Thailand, further enriching her global perspective on education.
Since returning to West Virginia, Lucky has continued to grow professionally. She is trained in the Barton Reading and Spelling System and has served as a substitute teacher across Monongalia and Kanawha Counties, gaining broad experience in diverse classroom environments.
Davin Farris is a dedicated educator with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from West Virginia State University, where she graduated in 2015. Early in her teaching career, she developed a strong interest in curriculum development and instructional strategy, which inspired her to return to WVSU to earn a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership.
For the past nine years, Davin has taught second grade in Charleston, West Virginia. She is passionate about creating a classroom environment that nurtures creativity, builds resilience, and encourages a lifelong love of learning. Her experience and leadership in the classroom reflect her deep commitment to student growth and educational excellence.
As educators and lifelong learners, we’ve seen firsthand how deeply reading struggles, especially dyslexia, can impact a child’s confidence, academic progress, and overall well-being. For both of us, this work is personal.
Lucky was inspired by her younger brother, Anthony, who struggled for years before finally being diagnosed with dyslexia in third grade. It wasn’t until he began working with a specialized Barton tutor that his transformation truly began. His confidence grew, his academic skills improved, and he finally started to see himself as capable and successful. That experience lit a fire to ensure children in West Virginia could access the same life-changing support right here at home.
Davin brings her own perspective as someone who struggled with reading growing up and knows how it feels to be left behind. As a teacher, she has seen how many bright students are misunderstood or mislabeled simply because they learn differently. She’s committed to helping students and families recognize that dyslexia is not a limitation, just a different way of processing language that requires a different approach.
We founded Vital Minds to bring evidence-based, compassionate, and personalized support to students who deserve to feel confident in their abilities. Our mission is to equip children with the tools they need to succeed and to empower families with the knowledge to support them. There is no quick fix, but with the right guidance, every student can thrive.
